Liposuction
Boston, MA
Introduction to Liposuction
When you’re trying to lose weight, you try everything from routine exercise to proper nutrition and dieting, yet sometimes the body just doesn’t respond the way you’d like. When this happens, it’s not because you are doing anything wrong, sometimes the body has “stubborn” areas of fat that just won’t go away. We understand the effect it may have on your psyche and self-esteem, and we want to help you shed those feelings by helping you shed that unwanted weight. In Boston, Liposuction is a widely-popular procedure that will physically remove excess fat cells and help you reclaim your body.
What Is Liposuction?
Liposuction surgery, also known as lipoplasty, is a body contouring procedure that is a safe and effective way to reshape your body and remove unwanted fat from specific areas of the body. Dr. Tandon specializes in multiple solutions to perform liposuction, including high-definition and laser liposuction techniques. This treatment can also be used to reduce size asymmetries between body parts, such as an uneven waist or different-sized thighs.
It’s important to note that Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure and many patients can gain weight after the surgery, so patients should maintain a healthy lifestyle to not gain any new excess fat or fatty tissue.
Some of the more common areas that our Boston Liposuction patients can treat with the surgical procedure include:
- Abdomen
- Ankles
- Arms
- Buttocks
- Cheeks
- Chin
- Hips
- Knees
- Neck
- Thighs
- Upper arms
- Waist
What Are The Benefits Of A Liposuction Procedure?
Our office has seen some of the numerous benefits our Liposuction Boston patients have been able to enjoy from their surgical procedure, which include:
- Improved body contour and shape
- Increased self-confidence
- Minimal recovery time
- Proportionate body silhouette
- Removal of stubborn excess fat deposits

- Treatment is versatile
Please keep in mind that this procedure may leave you with some excess skin that can not be removed without surgery. Dr. Tandon will discuss your body type during your consultation and may recommend a Tummy Tuck or Body Lift to achieve a slimmer figure with no excess skin to worry about.
Who Are The Best Candidates For Liposuction?

The best way to find out if you are a good candidate for Liposuction is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Tandon. We believe it’s important for our patients to understand that liposuction is not a weight loss procedure or a weight loss solution, but rather a helpful way to remove stubborn fat.
We encourage you to use this procedure as a springboard to lose weight and achieve a better full body shape and contour with proper diet and an exercise routine.
What's The First Step?
The first step to getting a Liposuction procedure is to book a consultation at the offices of Vickram Tandon, MD. During your initial consultation, you will meet with Dr. Tandon and discuss the areas of the body you are looking to treat and what your body goals are.
Dr. Tandon will evaluate your health, determine where your fat deposits lie, and assess the condition of your skin. He will also explain the body-contouring methods that may be most appropriate for you. Once the two of you decide on the best direction for your body contouring procedure, Dr. Tandon will create your customized procedure plan, and our Patient Coordinator will be able to help you schedule your appointment.
You will be provided with specific instructions on preparing for surgery, including guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking, and taking or avoiding vitamins, iron tablets, and certain medications.
What To Expect On The Day Of Liposuction?
On the day of your plastic surgery procedure, you will be asked to arrive at the office a few minutes before your scheduled appointment. Dr. Tandon and his team will prepare you for plastic surgery either by administering general or local anesthesia, however, general anesthesia is more popular for the surgery.
The surgeon will begin by making very small incisions, in the area where the fat is being removed. During a liposuction, Dr. Tandon will make incisions in the skin near the area that is to be treated. Through these incisions, he will insert a hollow tube called a cannula into the fat layer under the skin. The cannula is connected to a vacuum device which then gently suctions out excess fat to contour the body.
Depending on the patient’s needs, different types of Liposuction techniques may be used, such as:
- Tumescent Liposuction
- Ultrasound-assisted Liposuction
- Power-assisted Liposuction
The amount of fat removed is determined by the patient’s individual anatomy and desired outcome. The treated treatment area itself will then be carefully dressed with a sterile dressing to minimize bruising, bleeding, and swelling.
Liposuction Recovery
After surgery, you will be monitored in our recovery room until Dr. Tandon decides that you are safe to be discharged. You will need a family member or friend available to drive you home in case you are still feeling some of the effects of local anesthesia or sedation.
You will likely experience some fluid drainage from the incisions so Dr. Tandon may leave a small drainage tube inserted beneath your skin for a couple of days to control this. You may also be fitted with a snug elastic compression garment to wear over the treated area for a few weeks to manage swelling and help your skin form to its new contours.
- You may still experience some pain, burning, swelling, bleeding, and temporary numbness during your initial recovery. Dr. Tandon will prescribe you some temporary medications to prevent infection, reduce swelling and bruising, and alleviate any pain.
How Much Does Liposuction Cost In Boston, MA
The cost of a Liposuction in Boston is based on several factors, some of which include the surgeon’s fee, anesthesia cost, and facility fee, as well as the areas of contour change and predicted length of the procedure. For the most accurate cost of your liposuction procedure, please schedule your consultation with Dr. Tandon.

Most patients will experience minimal discomfort during and after their liposuction procedure. The use of anesthesia certainly helps reduce any pain or discomfort that you may experience during the liposuction healing process. Dr. Tandon will also provide you with post-procedure instructions to help with oral pain medication and ensure your recovery is smooth and comfortable.
While your needs will vary, stitches aren’t always necessary. Some people heal quickly without requiring sutures, while others may need a few to close any small incisions made during the surgery. Ultimately, it depends on the complexity of your procedure and how quickly you heal. Dr. Tandon will discuss with you what to expect during recovery, including any stitches that may be necessary for your individual situation.
The number of appointments you will need for liposuction depends on your individual needs and the complexity of the liposuction procedure itself. Generally, you can expect to have a consultation appointment, your surgical date, and several post-operative follow-up appointments. You will see Dr. Tandon at regular intervals post-operatively to make sure you are healing and your liposuction results progressing as expected.
Dr. Tandon will always let you know if and when he expects to see you again.
The full results of liposuction vary depending on the individual, but you should start to see visible changes in your body shape and contours within a few weeks after the procedure. The swelling will gradually diminish over time, allowing you to experience your true results. You will be able to enjoy the results from your treatment for years to come with proper diet and exercise.
Generally speaking, it’s best to wait for at least two weeks before returning to any form of physical activity to allow your body ample time to heal. It is important to give your body the time it needs to recover and allow for proper healing before engaging in strenuous physical activity. Depending on the extent of your surgery, you may be able to resume light exercise within a few days. However, Dr. Tandon recommends consulting with your surgeon to determine when the best time for you to resume any physical activity. Ultimately, you need to listen to your body and take the necessary precautions to ensure a safe and successful recovery.
Dr. Tandon advises his patients that if they experience swelling or discomfort when exercising, to stop immediately and consult with their surgeon as soon as possible to avoid any potential complications. It’s a good idea to start slowly and gradually increase the intensity of your workouts over time as your whole body heals and becomes accustomed to exercise post-Liposuction. With careful observation, patience, and guidance from Dr. Tandon, you can enjoy the full benefits of Liposuction while still having peace of mind that you are taking all necessary steps to ensure a safe recovery.
The good news is that the fat removal is permanent and you can continue to live your life with a slimmer body. If you are looking to augment parts of your body, the fat cells will be purified and can be used as a natural filler for your face, breasts, or buttocks. If you would like to reduce stubborn fat from certain and increase the volume in others, please discuss your options with Dr. Tandon during your Liposuction consultation.
Every patient will have their own unique results, however, the safe limit for fat removal through liposuction is typically around six to eight pounds. Going beyond this limit can increase the potential risks of complications.

- Anesthesia risks
