Introduction to Breast Lift
Sagging breasts are a common and natural occurrence that affects many women. Although their breast volume may not have changed, the loss of a firmer appearance resulting in drooping and sagging can be a cause for concern in many women. Some women may see more aggressive changes than others, but no matter the degree of sagging, most female patients will want to correct this appearance with Breast Lift surgery. Vickram Tandon, MD is a skilled plastic surgeon who uses his artistic eye and abilities to help his patients feel more confident in their bust. To learn more about this breast surgery, please keep reading below.
What Is A Breast Lift?
Medically referred to as Mastopexy, a Breast Lift is a cosmetic plastic surgery procedure that can improve the appearance of a woman’s breasts caused by aging, weight loss, or other factors. Breast lifts can reduce sagging skin, tighten minor sagging breasts, and elevate your nipples, to create a more youthful breast contour with an improved appearance for stretched skin.
What Are The Benefits Of A Breast Lift?
Our Breast Lift Boston patients have discovered the following benefits from their procedure:
- Better mobility for a more active lifestyle
- Improves sagging breasts
- Increased confidence
- Long-lasting results
- More attractive breast shape
- Natural nipple projection
- Youthful breast appearance
- Reduced discomfort
- Reduced irritation under the breasts
Who Are The Best Candidates For A Breast Lift?
At the practice of Vickram Tandon, MD, we feel that ideal Breast Lift surgery candidates have either sagging breasts, too much breast volume, or mild discomfort. We do believe that the best breast lift candidates are patients who share some of the following characteristics:
- Are in good overall health
- At a stable and healthy weight
- Have good skin laxity
- Maintain a positive attitude and realistic expectations for the procedure results
- Nonsmoker
Some of the more commonly utilized incisions include:
- Crescent Lift: Used for minimal breast sagging and involves a small crescent-shaped incision at the top of the areola. While it is the smallest incision with the most minimal visible scarring, it also creates the least amount of lift.
- Donut Lift: Often used to eliminate the vertical post-surgical marks that can occur with the anchor and lollipop mastopexy techniques. The donut incision is performed with a circle of excess breast skin removed from around the areola, with the surrounding skin being “gathered” and sutured to the areola.
- Lollipop Lift: This technique works well for mild to moderate breast sagging. This incision goes around the areola and down to the breast crease, creating a lollipop-style shape. It is also referred to as a vertical or keyhole incision.
- Anchor Lift: Also known as the inverted-T incision, it is similar to a lollipop incision, but is primarily used for severely drooping breasts. It involves an anchor incision around the areola, down to the breast crease, and a horizontal incision in the breast fold.
If necessary, Dr. Tandon will reposition your nipple and areola to an appropriate height. Once he is finished, Dr. Tandon will stitch you up around the areola in a vertical line going down from the nipple area and along the breast’s crease.
If you have breast augmentation along with your breast lift, it will be placed in a pocket directly under the breast tissue or deeper under the muscle of the chest wall.
Most procedures take between two and four hours to complete.
What's the first step?
If you are looking into Breast Lift in Boston, your first step is to contact the practice of Vickram Tandon, MD to schedule your consultation. When you come in and meet with Dr. Tandon, he will answer any questions you have about the procedure, consider your aesthetic goals, evaluate your breasts and body type, and do a physical exam of your breasts. He will also ask about your medical history, previous surgeries, medications, and current herbal supplements, so it’s very important to be open and honest when providing information so that you can avoid any unnecessary risks.
After discussing your options and deciding the best technique to achieve your desired look, Dr. Tandon will create your surgical plan and our Patient Coordinator will help you schedule your procedure date. You will also be provided with instructions to follow before your procedure, such as stopping taking certain medications.
What To Expect On The Day Of Breast Lift?
On the day of your Breast Lift in Boston, you will first be sedated using general anesthesia to make your surgery as comfortable of an experience as possible. Dr. Tandon will begin by making the appropriate incisions that were discussed during your consultation, followed by removing excess skin and fatty tissue.
Breast Lift Recovery
Since Mastopexy is an outpatient procedure, you will be able to return home after the procedure is finished and you are released from our recovery room. Keep in mind that it can take up to 24 hours to completely recover from the effects of the anesthesia, so you will need to have a friend or family member take you home and even help you around the house for the first week.
You will be advised to wear a support bra 24/7 for several weeks to help heal, although you can remove it to bathe, but remember to be very gentle around your breasts. You will experience some discomfort, swelling, and bruising around your breasts, which can be managed with pain medication and by following the instructions you are given for postoperative care. There may be a tingling or numbness around the incisions, especially around the areola because there are a lot of nerve endings in that area. Over time, your incisions will heal and the swelling will gradually subside, as well as any visible scarring.
While you will see some improvements immediately, it can take six weeks or more to see the most dramatic improvement in your breast lift results. It is important to remember that this procedure may impact your ability to breastfeed.
How Much Does Breast Lift Cost In Boston, MA
The cost of a Breast Lift in Boston varies on several factors, more specifically, the technique used for your surgical procedure. Since no two surgeries are the same, the best way to learn the price of your breast lift is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Tandon. Once he creates your surgical plan, our Patient Coordinator will be able to give you a breakdown of the total cost.

Breast Lift FAQS
Your surgery should not be painful because it is performed under general anesthesia. As you heal, you can expect some swelling, bruising, and mild pain that should dissipate in about two weeks, but Dr. Tandon will temporarily prescribe you some pain medication to make your recovery more comfortable.
After your consultation and surgery, Dr. Tandon will have you return about a week post-op so he can monitor your recovery and remove any sutures or bandages. After this initial check-up, you can expect to return a few more times over the year, usually around three months and six months, for Dr. Tandon to ensure you are healing properly and satisfied with your results. We may also take some “after” photos to show the visible changes.
You may be able to see positive changes immediately following your surgery, but you will be swollen and bruised, so you shouldn’t base your results on your initial appearance. As you heal and the swelling and bruising subsides, you should be able to see your final results between 6 and 12 weeks.
Absolutely! Our Breast Lift patients in Boston will commonly pair their surgery with other body contouring procedures, such as a Tummy Tuck or Brazilian Butt Lift. Women with larger breasts will also frequently combine a breast lift with their Breast Reduction to remove some of the excess weight and obtain perkier breasts. If you have a particular aesthetic goal, please discuss it with Dr. Tandon so he can provide his expertise and professional insight.
