- Currently at their desired weight

Please keep in mind that Liposuction does carry a greater risk for patients with medical problems (i.e. diabetes, significant heart or lung disease, poor blood circulation) or for those who have recently experienced surgery near the targeted contour area. While your candidacy may be affected, we encourage you to schedule a consultation with Dr. Tandon if you have any questions or hesitations. He will be happy to evaluate your situation and determine if liposuction in the neck or chin is right for you, or if there are any other options available for you.
What's the first step?
If you are interested in submental liposuction in the Boston area, the first step is to schedule your consultation with Dr. Vickram Tandon. When you come in for your appointment, you will be able to ask any questions about the procedure, address your areas of concern, and learn about potential options to help you achieve your desired aesthetic goals.
Dr. Tandon will examine your chin, neck, and the rest of your face, as well as ask you questions about your lifestyle and medical history. Please be completely open and honest when having any part of your discussion. The information you provide will help prevent unnecessary risks and achieve the best possible outcome.
Once you have discussed every aspect of your surgery, Dr. Tandon will create your surgical plan. If you are satisfied with this plan, you will then meet with our Patient Coordinator to schedule the day of your procedure and you will be provided with some instructions to follow that will help make your results as successful as possible.
What To Expect On The Day Of Neck & Chin Liposuction?
On the day of your Neck/Chin liposuction, it will be performed under local anesthesia but can be done under general anesthesia if you and Dr. Tandon feel it’s a better option.
Dr. Tandon will begin your procedure by treating the entire treatment area with a numbing medication that will anesthetize the area, minimize bleeding, and help suspend the fat for suctioning. He will make about ½ inch incisions just underneath the chin and in the creases below each ear lobe. While Dr. Tandon can make a singular incision underneath your chin, multiple incisions allow for different angles which can help Dr. Tandon reach difficult-to-reach areas and achieve a more even result.
The Liposuction portion is then performed through the incisions with a very thin rod called a cannula that is connected to the suction machine and passed evenly throughout the treatment zones. The cannula will be gently used to scrape loose the stubborn fat and suction it out.
Once he is finished, Dr. Tandon will close each incision with one or two small sutures. Gauze pads are placed over the incisions as some watery blood-tinged leakage is expected from those areas during the first 24hrs, and a soft, elastic compression garment will be applied to prevent excessive swelling.
This procedure will take approximately one hour to complete but will vary depending on your personal aesthetic needs.
Neck & Chin Liposuction Recovery
After your surgery is complete, we will monitor you in our recovery room until Dr. Tandon releases you that same day. You may still feel the effects of the numbing medication, which is why we encourage our patients to find a family member or friend to provide them with a ride home. Once the medication wears off within a few hours, you can expect to experience a dull aching soreness. Before you leave, you will be provided with a very small amount of mild pain medication, but many patients tend to differ from regular Tylenol (acetaminophen) to alleviate their symptoms.
After the first 24 hours post-surgery, you will be able to remove the compression dressing for the first time. You will be taught how to easily reapply the compression bandage with some foam for an even distribution of pressure. You will need to continue to wear the bandage day and night for about a week, but you can remove it twice a day for 30 minutes to shower and allow your skin to breathe.
Patients are usually able to return to most of their activities the day after surgery as long as they don’t require lifting over 15 lbs., bending over, being upside down, or other types of physical strain. We encourage our patients to begin walking when they are comfortable but should avoid jogging for at least a week. With Dr. Tandon’s blessing, you can begin more intensive workouts, such as running and weight lifting, after about two weeks. Dr. Tandon will discuss your potential activity levels after each follow-up appointment which can change with every patient.

NECK & CHIN LIPOSUCTION FAQS
During your facial liposuction procedure, you shouldn’t feel any pain due to the anesthesia that is used to make your experience more comfortable. It is common for patients to experience some slight discomfort during recovery, but in general, soreness should not last for more than a few days. While any pain should be mild, Dr. Tandon can prescribe some temporary pain medication. You can also use ice packs to alleviate any pain.
Dr. Tandon will have his Neck & Chin Liposuction patients return to our office about a week after surgery so he can remove any stitches and compression garments. The level of improvement seen at this point varies depending on the amount of liposuction that was required and the patient’s innate capacity for swelling.
He may have you return for a few more follow-ups depending on how you are healing. Dr. Tandon will always let you know when he would like for you to return.
Those with moderate to severe amounts of fat removed will often see an improvement despite the swelling that is still present. With mild cases, we do sometimes see a small improvement after one week, but the swelling often compensates for the small amount of fat removed. Resolution of swelling is also highly variable among patients.
Typically, patients see notable improvements every week for the first three to six weeks. After about four months, you should see your final results, with mild improvements continuing 6 – 12 months after surgery.
Yes! Many of our Boston Neck & Chin Liposuction patients will combine their procedure with other cosmetic Facial surgeries, such as a Rhinoplasty or Eyelid Surgery for a better profile. If you have any specific goals in mind for your body or face, please inform Dr. Tandon during your consultation and he will be able to offer you his expert suggestions.
