Lip Lift

A person’s lips can do so much for their appearance, and whether it’s because of genetics or years on this earth, a wider distance between the upper lip and the base of the nose can generate an aged appearance. At the practice of Vickram Tandon, MD, he offers patients in the Boston area an opportunity to shorten this distance and have a more attractive aesthetic. To learn more about this cosmetic procedure, please keep reading the information below.

What Is A Lip Lift?

A Lip Lift is a surgical procedure that aims to enhance the appearance of the lips by shortening the distance between the upper lip and the base of the nose. It is a popular solution for individuals who desire fuller lips with improved definitions. During the procedure, excess skin is removed and the remaining tissue is repositioned to lift and reshape the upper region of the mouth.

  • Permanent results

Who Are The Best Candidates For A Lip Lift?

  • In good overall health

What To Expect On The Day Of Lip Lift?

On the day of your Lip Lift in Boston, you will first meet with Dr. Tandon and discuss your procedure one more time. You will then be administered either local anesthesia or sedation to ensure your comfort throughout the process. Dr. Tandon may make some temporary marks on your lips where he intends on making the incisions.

Dr. Tandon will skillfully perform the Lip Lift by making carefully placed incisions along the natural lip line or beneath the base of the nose, depending on the technique he chooses. He will remove any excess skin and reposition the remaining tissue to elevate your upper lip. Once finished, Dr. Tandon will close the incisions with sutures and apply some bandages for additional protection.

The surgery typically takes about one to two hours, and after the procedure, you will receive detailed post-operative care instructions to promote proper healing.

What's the first step?

When you come for your Lip Lift consultation, you will meet with Dr. Tandon and be allowed to discuss your aesthetic goals and concerns for your lips and have your questions about the surgery answered. He will then evaluate the shape, size, and proportions of your lips to assess if this procedure is the best solution for you. This evaluation will also include a discussion about your medical history to ensure you are a suitable candidate for the procedure and prevent any unnecessary risks.

Once you and Dr. Tandon have discussed and agreed upon every aspect of your surgery, he will create your custom procedure plan. Before you leave, our Patient Coordinator will help you schedule the day and time of your lip lift procedure and provide you with some instructions to follow.

Lip Lift Recovery

After your Lip Lift surgery, our staff will monitor you in our recovery room until you awaken from sedation. Once you are good to leave, you will be released from our care and will be able to have a friend or relative take you home.

As you recover, it is important to give your body time to heal. There will be some swelling and bruising around your lips but should subside over the next few days. We encourage our patients to avoid any strenuous activities for the first few weeks and follow the specific guidelines for eating, drinking, and talking that we give you.

How Much Does Lip Lift Cost In Boston, MA

The best way to understand the costs is to book a consultation so that Dr. Tandon can develop a procedure plan. Once this plan is complete, our Patient Coordinator can supply a clear-cut analysis of the pricing involved.

Why Choose Dr. Tandon?

Vickram Tandon, MD is a respected plastic surgeon in the cosmetic surgery community. After completing medical school at Brown University, he went on to train at the top-ranked University of Michigan in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery for his residency. Not content with stopping there, Dr. Tandon was selected to participate in a prestigious year-long fellowship program in Aesthetic Surgery through Harvard Plastic Surgery where he worked with surgeons throughout Boston and beyond to hone his skills in the most advanced techniques. Dr. Tandon has even had the honor of being invited to speak at multiple conferences where he had the honor of contributing to the advancement of the field of aesthetic medicine and improving patient outcomes.

Every patient reacts to pain differently, but since a Lip Lift is typically performed under sedation, either with local anesthesia or general anesthesia, any discomfort or pain will be minimal, if experienced at all. You should expect some swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort after the surgery, but these symptoms are usually well-managed with pain medication that Dr. Tandon will prescribe to you.

Dr. Tandon will have you return to our office about a week after surgery so that he can monitor your recovery and remove any bandages or sutures. After this initial follow-up appointment, most patients will need to return a few more times over the next few months but will space out even more between each subsequent visit.

Dr. Tandon will always inform you of how he believes you are recovering and when he expects to see you again.

While many patients will be able to see some positive results immediately following your procedure, you should expect to see better results in about three to four months, with the final results producing more definition with a better lip ratio after about a year post-surgery.

Absolutely! Many of our patients will use a combination of treatments to enhance their results and increase their confidence. Lip Lift surgery is often performed in combination with other facial enhancement treatments such as a Rhinoplasty or Chin Implant, but also pairs wonderfully with non-surgical treatments such as BOTOX. No matter what your aesthetic goals are, please be sure to share them with Dr. Tandon during your consultation. He will be more than willing to discuss all of your options and help you find the best procedures to meet your goals.

Every surgical procedure has potential complications, and even though Dr. Tandon takes great pride in his many successful results, he believes it’s important to share the potential risks with his patients, which include:

  • Allergic reactions to anesthesia
  • Blood loss during or after surgery
  • Nerve damage
  • Poor wound healing or scarring
  • Scarring

If you experience any long-lasting or concerning reactions during your recovery, please contact our office immediately.
