Please keep reading below to learn more about this non-surgical laser treatment great for treating a variety of skin conditions and skin types.
What is CO₂ LASER RESURFACING?
CO₂ Laser Resurfacing is a skin rejuvenation treatment that uses a fractional laser to treat certain skin conditions and help you achieve healthier and younger-looking skin with minimal post-treatment downtime. Fractional means that only a segment of your skin surface is exposed to the laser beam, leaving the surrounding untreated skin unphased, promoting natural healing and a shorter recovery time. The fractional laser delivers a therapeutic matrix of tiny beams of light energy to the top and mid-layers of the skin with minimal discomfort.
Laser skin resurfacing can address a wide range of flaws and imperfections, including:
- Age spots
- Dull-looking skin
- Irregular pigmentation
- Irregular skin texture
- Sagging
- Scarring
- Sun damage
- Wrinkles
A single treatment can show significant improvement in skin texture and color while softening wrinkles, and the laser beam’s beneficial effects will expand under your skin’s surface, stimulating new collagen production across the entire area.
What Are The Benefits Of CO₂ Laser Resurfacing?
Our Boston CO₂ Laser Resurfacing patients have experienced some wonderful benefits from their treatment, including:
- Can help treat precancerous skin lesions
- Improves skin texture and evens skin tone
- Minimal downtime
- Minimizes sun damage, acne scars, and fine lines
- Stimulates collagen for firmer, more youthful skin
Who Are The Best Candidates Of CO₂ Laser Resurfacing??
The best candidates for CO₂ Laser Resurfacing in Boston, MA are in good overall health, have no active skin infections or diseases that could interfere with their healing process, and have realistic expectations for their treatment results. This procedure is great for individuals who have concerns about the appearance of the skin, such as:
- Acne scars

- Wrinkles
While patients with darker skin pigment can see improvement in their skin from CO₂ Laser Resurfacing, patients with lighter skin tones tend to see more dynamic results.
What's the first step?
If you have certain skin issues that you would like to fix, your first step in getting CO₂ Laser Resurfacing in Boston is to contact the office of Vickram Tandon, MD. and schedule an initial consultation. During your appointment, you will meet with Dr. Tandon and ask any questions you may have about the treatment, express your aesthetic goals, and receive a personal examination of your skin. Dr. Tandon will ask you some questions about your medical history and lifestyle, so to avoid any unnecessary risks or side effects, please be completely open and honest with him.
After Dr. Tandon has the information he needs and the two of you have discussed all aspects of the procedure, he will write up your custom treatment plan, and our Patient Coordinator will help you schedule your first session, as well as provide you with some instructions on how to make your treatment as effective as possible.
What To Expect On The Day Of CO₂ Laser Resurfacing Procedure
On the day of your CO₂ Laser Resurfacing treatment, it will be performed right here in our office. After making yourself comfortable in one of our reclining chairs, we will wash and dry the treated area thoroughly, and topical anesthesia can be applied to your face to make your experience more comfortable, although many of our patients do not require it. If you have a larger area being treated, we can offer sedation to ensure you experience no pain throughout your experience. You will also be provided with some protective eyewear to shield your eyes from the laser.
During treatment, Dr. Tandon will use the handheld fractional laser to precisely target the skin imperfections discussed during your consultation, and your tissue will absorb specific wavelengths of the laser’s light to remove damaged tissue and stimulate new, healthy tissue underneath. There will be a warm sensation on your skin, but this is to be expected.
CO₂ Laser Resurfacing can also stimulate collagen production in your body, which will continue producing healthy skin even after the treatment.
Depending on the size of the area being treated, treatment can take between 30 minutes and two hours.
CO₂ Laser Resurfacing Recovery
Since CO₂ Laser Resurfacing is an outpatient treatment, you will be able to leave almost immediately after Dr. Tandon is finished. You will be provided with post-treatment instructions on how to take care of your new skin and what to expect from your recovery process.
- During the first few days, you might experience an itching or stinging sensation, along with some swelling, but this should subside between 12 and 72 hours. You can also initially expect some redness and skin sensitivity. Most patients will see their healed skin within one or two weeks. Please keep in mind that more dramatic results will require more in-depth treatments, making it a longer recovery.
- You must avoid any direct sun exposure following your treatment, and if you are in the sun, please consistently use broad-spectrum sunscreen. Excessive sun exposure can affect your results. You will need to avoid wearing any makeup on the treated area, as well as avoid any hot tubs, steam rooms, or saunas until your skin has fully healed. After a few weeks, you can use oil-free makeup to minimize redness, which may take two or three months to fully disappear.
- Your skin will begin to peel a little about a week after your treatment, but DO NOT pick at it!
